My New 1950's White Train Case

Hi!

A few days ago, I bought this adorable small white suitcase at an estate sale, and decided to share it with you! I did some research, and found it in a Sears, Roebuck & Co. Catalog from 1957. And it's so awesome because I paid $5, which is more than half of the original 1957 price! Here's a picture of the case from the catalog:

Isn't it so cute?! I'm really glad I saw it, and bought it!
Here it is in the condition I got it:

I cleaned it up a bit with a toothbrush and Colgate toothpaste, then a damp cloth to take off the toothpaste. It's such a great trick my mom taught me. (Of course, you shouldn't use this method on anything absorbent.)  Here it is after the cleaning:

I love the look and texture of the interior!

The mirror is in great condition!

Unfortunately, the tray is missing.
The original sticker!

Much cleaner, right? I have not cleaned the inside because I love the smell. It smells just like my great-grandma, who is still living. The other day, my mom and I were trying to think of how we'd describe what she smells like, and we couldn't. Once we smelled this case, that was it. That's her smell. It smells like old makeup, with a faint cigarette smell. It's so great and in a way, comforting.  So yes, very happy with my purchase :)

Thanks for reading!

  1. I have that same train case! I got it several years ago at a thrift store. Mine is green, still has the tray but the mirror is missing. I absolutely love it!
